Shell serves as the operator in a partnership with the Iraqi government. The one-year contract, effective in June, is to test new production facilities and equipment at the field. New facilities include pipelines and associated infrastructure."We will be supporting Shell on the start-up and commissioning of its facilities in the Majnoon field until steady state operations are achieved and the facilities begin operations," Wood Group Middle East Director David Buchan said in a statement.Political disputes and national security issues are hindering Iraq's full energy potential. While southern port regions may be stable, bombings and assassinations have sparked concern from the United Nations in recent weeks.
