EU pipeline, TAP, makes Greek headway
ATHENS, Greece, July 3 () -- The consortium managing the Trans-Adriatic pipeline for Azeri gas said Wednesday it made headway in day-to-day management of the Greek section of the project.A BP-led consortium managing the Shah Deniz II natural gas field off Azerbaijan selected TAP as its conduit for European consumers. More than 300 miles of the 492-mile pipeline will cross Greek territory on its way to Albania and the southern European market. It would connect to another pipeline from Turkey.TAP said Wednesday it signed a cooperation agreement with Greek gas transmission company DESFA to manage day-to-day operations of the Greek leg of the pipeline."Having been chosen by the Shah Deniz consortium as the best option to transport gas to Europe, the project now moves into the next phase of execution," TAP's director for Greek operations Rikard Scoufias said in a statement. The pipeline is part of European plan to add diversity to an energy market dominated by Russia. The project will deliver more than 350 billion cubic feet of natural gas to European markets when it goes online in 2019.
