Primark BBC1 tonight,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Anyone else watching the programme on BBC1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
I would never shop in primark (or Nike ot Gap) because of their record with child labour/lack of fair trade standards,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Some of their workers earn 52p a day with is less than half the minimum wage in India
I also don't agree with the 'throw away society',[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I know lots of poeple who buy things,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wear it once and then throw away (don't even recycle- grrr). It's just so wasteful.
I've had to turn the programme off it's revolting seeing such expoitation. And well I just think if you are aware of trading like this,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], imo it's good to boycott the companies and try to buy fairtrade (I know it's difficult to always be ethically aware though)
Sorry re rant,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but those poor children and the poor families living like that
I don't think this is porperly highlighted nina,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we do have a primark in my town and it's always full,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], i mean packed to the rafters. Whilst people in this country also deal with poverty and a way to feed and clothe their kids we also have a deal to break,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whether it be our kids" blending" in our just getting clean and "new" clothes to wear for school. I know children in my daughters school who have 3 pairs of knickers to their name,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], i can't help what is going on elsewhere but the likes of primark are a LIFELINE to some mothers in this country,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and although they may know the origin of the items,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they would still buy them!
NM - when I wrote that post I did think for some people it is all they can afford. I guess I was thinking more that people who can afford to buy fair trade,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], should! Also I think a lot of teenagers shop there and buy loads of stuff,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], why not buy fewer items somewhere that has stricter trading standards? (but I guess at a young age I wouldn't have thought about where my money was going either!)
