IVF May Have Saved Personalitys Life,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
October has been known as National Breast Cancer Awareness month for a quarter of a century,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a fact that is not lost on Guiliana Rancic. As a correspondent for E!News and for the Style Network,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Rancic has been conducting interviews and dispelling breast cancer myths. She has also been very public about her use of invitro fertilization in her attempt to have a baby. Those two topics collided for her when the 37 year old personality was encouraged to have a mammogram just before an upcoming third attempt at IVF. Originally,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she had planned that screening test for age forty,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the typical age for a first mammogram. Hers revealed a small tumor,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she told the Today Show on Monday morning.
Rancic had been working with a non-profit agency,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Bright Pink to bring increased awareness for breast cancer and to try to end some of the most common myths that surrounds the disease.
Surgery and six weeks of radiation will begin later in the week,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but prognosis is good and Rancic says that it will not change her attempts to have a baby. She will try IVF once her oncology team allows her to do so. Her and husband Bill,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], have tried the procedure two times prior to this one with the first ending in miscarriage and the second failing to work. Ms. Rancic told the audience that Bill was being very supportive and the she was relying on his strength to get her through the upcoming weeks.
Rancic is not the only one to have revealed a public struggle with breast cancer. Long standing Chief of Foreign Affairs for NBC,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Andrea Mitchell made her own public announcement back in September. Like Rancic, Mitchell's cancer was caught early before it had had a time to spread and her prognosis is also good. Comedian Wanda Sykes revealed that she had had a double mastectomy after cancer was found during a scheduled breast reduction surgery. She made that announcement on the Ellen DeGeneres show earlier in the year after debating whether she should go public with the news or not.
Breast cancer awareness has been bolstered in recent years by a spate of famous celebrities,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], both male and female who have battled and survived. Melissa Etheridge had breast cancer treatment in 2005. Sheryl Crow was treated the following year. Actresses Suzanne Somers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Maura Tierney and Christina Applegate all are breast cancer survivors. Applegate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], appearing in a new sitcom,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], credits her new baby with helping her return to health after completing her treatment for the disease. KISS drummer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Peter Chriss revealed his own battle with breast cancer as well.
