Jenoptik Defense Inc. to develop new targeting system for Marines
JTER, Fla., Jan. 9 () -- A new day/night observation and target acquisition system is to be developed for the U.S. Marine Corps by Jenoptik Defense Inc.The system, to meet the Marines' need for a common laser range finder integrated capability, will integrate several elements of currently fielded equipment into a single light-weight, handheld system.Jenoptik said the contract, under which the company will compete against three other companies for development of the system, is worth $1.3 million. Work will take place over 19 months."This development contract is an important step in the internationalization of our Defense and Civil Systems division," Jenoptik Chief Executive Officer Michael Mertin said. "It confirms that our innovative solutions have gained considerable attention in the American military market."Jenoptik Defense, established in 2011, has offices in Florida. It is part of the Jenoptik Group of Germany, which is seeking to expand its business in North America and Asia.
