Fire victims lost treasured belongings
Marquis managed to get out with minor burns on her face and hands. "He'll be in there for the next few days," Marquis said. "But you know what? We could have easily died in there. We were so close I can't even tell you."
Marquis and Rotolo were asleep in their 58-year-old ranch-style home when they heard their smoke alarm blaring,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The house was already engulfed in flames.
Marquis has trouble remembering precisely how they got out of the house or how her husband sustained his injuries.
"We just narrowly made it out. The flames were coming at us. A plethora of fire departments fought the blaze well into the night.
An official cause of the fire has yet to be determined,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but said it started near a wood-burning stove.
"It was around that area,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Gravius said.
Marquis said she was told the fire involved some type of malfunction with the stove and its associated apparatus,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and that the first flames were on the roof.
The house and everything inside was destroyed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including antiques they were in the process of transferring to their new storefront at 310 E. Washington St. in Bridgeport. They formerly had a shop on Main Street in Danbury.
The house is owned by George Trodella,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Marquis described him as a family friend and real estate developer from Florida who purchased the house and property and rented it to Maquis and Rotolo,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. The plan was for them to save money and purchase the house from Trodella,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
