The man,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a 30-year-old from Lockerbie,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was a passenger in a black Volkswagen Passat which was involved in a collision with a Brampton Skips DAF LF truck at Harker Road Ends,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to the north of Carlisle.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where he remains in a critical condition with multiple injuries,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including those to his head and chest.
The driver of the skip wagon,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a 45-year-old man from Brampton,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was taken to Carlisle Cumberland Infirmary with minor injuries,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but was not kept in for further treatment.
Both vehicles left the road after the crash near Aero Nurseries at about 2pm yesterday (Thursday),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The road was closed for nearly five hours while the scene was cleared and police launched their investigation into the collision cause,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Officers are keen to speak to a driver who they believe could have information which may help them,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
A Cumbria police spokeswoman said: are making an appeal to trace a motorist who was seen driving a dark coloured car along the Gretna to Kingmoor road and made a left turn onto Parkhouse Road near to Harker Road Ends at about 2pm. It is believed that this driver may have witnessed the collision or part of the collision and may have information that could be vital to the police inquiry. and a number of police attended and helped cut the casualties free from the car,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which was in a ditch.
The air ambulances dispatched were the Great North Air Ambulance Langwathby-based Pride of Cumbria and another of the charity helicopters from Darlington in County Durham,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
