Essex plumber may face prison after shoddy gas work left family in peril
An Essex plumber has brought a twelvemonth suspended prison sentence and 180 hours of unpaid community service after his firm fitted a dangerous boiler in what was to be a child's bedroom in a house in ClactonOnSea.

Colchester Magistrates' Court heard in today's market (28 september) That an inspection by a Gas Safe regional investigations officer found seven defects directly because of the work organised by Lee Lawrence and undertaken by Amber Plumbing Solutions.
A district judge was told the firm had carried out some bathroom work for the householders and were asked to return to undertake gas work in March 2011. The work involved installing a gas cooker and moving a boiler upstairs, To a bedroom for the purpose of use by a child.
The boiler was connected in July but kept removing prompting the call by the residents to a Gas Safe registered engineer. He was so wary of the standard of work, He got in contact with Gas Safe and HSE was later alerted.
HSE found that the advertising flyers produced by Lee Lawrence for Amber Plumbing Solutions displayed the Gas Safe logo and their site falsely stated that Amber Plumbing Solutions was a Gas Safe registered company.
He was found guilty of two breaches of rule 3 (7) The particular Gas Safe (Setting up use Regulations) 1998 and a breach of Regulation 4 of the Gas Safety legal guidelines. As soon as hearing, HSE Inspector ed Crick said:
"HSE works closely with inspectors from the GasSafe Register with the intention that those who carrying out unregistered and illegal gas work are dealt with.
"Mr Lawrence showed a blatant disregard for the protection of his customers. A registered gas engineer had no hesitation in labelling the boiler as an on the spot danger to life or property. Setting it up in what was to be a children's bedroom was reckless beyond belief and could have had tragic consequences.
There is no excuse for illegally carrying out work on gas appliances and to falsely claim Gas Safe Register membership in order to defraud customers is a serious offence.
"Any person having work done on gas appliances or pipework should thoroughly check the credentials of your companion doing the job. A registered Gas Safe engineer will be delighted to give you their registration number which can be checked immediately on line or over the phone.

Regulations 3 (7) Of the Gas insurance (Installation and Use) Limitations 1998 states: No person shall falsely pretend to be a member of a class of persons required to be licensed by the Health Safety Executive.
Legislation 4 of the Gas Safety (System Use) Regulatings 1998 states: Where an employer or a selfemployed person requires any work in connection with a gas fitting to be carried out at any place of work under his control or where an employer or selfemployed person has control to any extent of work regarding a gas fitting,8 Worst Brazil 76 years, He shall take reasonable steps ensuring that the person undertaking that work is, Or is required by, A member of a class of persons approved by the safe practices Executive.
