The Yankees met with his agent on at least two occasions during last week's Winter Meetings in Nashville,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Youkilis was the first position player the Yankees offered a contract to for 2013.
The nine-year veteran spent his entire career with Boston,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], up until the final 80 games of 2012 which were spent in Chicago with the White Sox. The Indians and the Dodgers were both reported to have been interested in him as well.
So far this off-season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Yankees have spent $37 million to retain three of their top pitchers including Andy Pettite and Mariano Rivera. And that was before they opened the door for Youkilis. With that deal close to completion,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Yankees could also be finalizing a deal with Ichiro Suzuki before the week is finished.
