Simona Halep, with third win in five weeks, climbs in rankings
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 15 () -- Simona Halep, winning her third championship in four tournaments, continues her move up the WTA rankings.Halep defeated Yvonne Meusburger in Sunday's final of the Hungarian Grand Prix. She won in Germany and the Netherlands the two weeks before Wimbledon, where she lost in the second round, but immediately came back in Budapest with her third career WTA title.Halep was ranked 58th before her recent run and moves to a career high of No. 23 as of Monday. Meusburger moves from 112th to No. 86.Organizers of the Italiacom Open couldn't have asked for a better final with the two highest ranked Italian women -- and who together comprise the world No. 1 doubles team.Roberta Vinci, No. 11 in the rankings, edged No. 6-ranked Sara Errani 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 for the championship. Errani had been the defending champion of the event. Vinci had lost to Errani the last five times they met.Vinci improved to an impressive 9-1 in WTA finals. It was her second title this year.The Top 10 is unchanged this week. World No. 1 Serena Williams is in the draw at the Collector Swedish Open. The No. 2 seed there is Halep.The other WTA tournament this week is the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies 2013 in Austria.
