Through the span of the investigation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], more than $1 million worth of pot was seized,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], along with 200 ecstasy tablets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 17 handguns and an assault rifle. The investigation began in June of 2009 and undercover agents carried out a number of controlled drug buys.
"We still exert pressure on street gang-controlled retail sales of narcotics,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Patrick J. Fitzgerald,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. "This case shows the dangerous combination of gangs, guns and drugs, which afflict our community and should be stopped."
Joining Fitzgerald in the news conference announcing the arrests today was Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis. He told reporters,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "The Chicago Police Department will work with our state and federal partners to research those allegedly responsible for victimizing our communities once we make an effort to enhance the standard of living for all Chicago residents."
