Charlotte Premium Outlets has ramped up construction as it plans for a July 31 opening,Hermes Lindy.
Work on that nearly 400,000-square-foot outlet center began in September, and the outlet mall’s footprint is now in place.
It is being built on a 40-acre parcel on the west side of Interstate 485 between Shopton and Steele Creek roads.
“It’s amazing how much changes on a day-to-day basis,” says , general manager for Charlotte Premium Outlets.
The outlet mall is a 50-50 joint venture between Indianapolis-based Inc. (NYSE:SPG) and Inc. (NYSE:SKT),Mens Jackets and Coats, which is headquartered in Greensboro.
Campbell knows the list of projects still to be completed is long — and the weather in recent months has made the construction process challenging. But, she adds, general contractor Choate Construction is on target to meet the July 31 opening.
The outlet center’s buildings have been framed out.
This week,Givenchy Bags, scaffolding surrounded large sections of the outlet mall,Mens Short Sleeve Tee, allowing crews to work on the exterior, which features stacked stone columns and natural paint colors.
Drains, pipes and electricity were on the schedule to be completed in the common areas. Concrete needs to be poured, parking lots paved and landscaping added.
“It’s an exciting time for any manager to see something come out of the ground,” Campbell says.
She anticipates the first retailers will begin moving into the center about 60 days before the July 31 grand opening. The outlet mall expects the “vast majority” of stores will open on that date, Campbell says.
The outlet center will have 100 stores — up from the 90 planned initially.
