Jacques Duchesneau has had his day at the National Assembly testifying before the National Assembly. And the pressure is building for action to tackle the deeply rooted web of corruption and collusion that he says exists in Quebec construction and engineering firms, politics and the public service. Action, that is, beyond the current police investigations,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the anti-corruption squads.
We spoke to Sylvain Simard, he chair of the National Assembly Committee who heard his testimony. He's the Parti Quebecois MNA for Richelieu.

Bill 204 has passed the National Assembly. It renders impermeable to court challenge the contract struck between Quebec City Mayor Regis Lebaume and Quebecor Inc's Pierre-Karl Peladeau to build the city's new amphitheatre,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the "Arena of Dreams," to entice the Nordiques NHL team back.

Normally I have good hands. I have always been able to catch a ball be it a baseball, softball,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], football whiffle ball (don't ask.) but what I realized playing with the Montreal Irish this weekend is that having good hands with opponents running at you is not quite as easy. This,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sadly, was the final Dare Andie of the summer and what a way to go out! Unfortunately due to timing on Saturday I was only able to play the first half of the game at the Montreal Irish Annual Labour Day Tournament. Fractious times for Quebec's sovereignty movement and in particular for le parti quebecois. Its MNAs met this week in Saguenay to try to shake off the effects of a series of high-profile resignations in June,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the birth of a new sovereignty movement which is sharply critical of the PQ's referendum strategy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and a string of disastrous poll numbers. Those polls suggest the PQ sinking like a stone, now trailing far behind the Liberals who until recently were looking beleaguered. We spoke to Yves-Francois Blanchet, PQ MNA for Drummond.
After a summer of Spartan racing, tug-of-waring, sprinting,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], mountain biking and cycling the final Dare Andie will go down Saturday in St. Julie. It's the Montreal Irish Rugby Club Labour Day tournament and I will be playing on the women's team for a game in the afternoon. I am excited to take on a sport I still don't quite understand the rules for as well as hopefully manage to tackle someone. I have high hopes that tackling will be easier than body-checking which I discovered in a charity hockey game at the Bell Center a few years ago was not actually that easy!
Jennifer Bridgeman co-founded the women's team and is on the executive board at the Montreal Irish Rugby Football Club. She is the lady who brought the dare to the table and will be keeping me in line and hopefully safe tomorrow!
